#What does Meta send with the first message from an ad?
When a person taps a click-to-WhatsApp ad and sends the opening message, Meta adds a referral object to the webhook your WhatsApp tool receives. Meta's webhook reference for text messages (checked 26 Oct 2026) lists this as one of the cases:
A WhatsApp user sends a text message to a business via a Click to WhatsApp ad (an ad with a WhatsApp message destination).
The same page describes the fields in the referral object. They include the ad headline ("Click to WhatsApp ad headline."), the ad URL, the ad ID, the primary text, the media type, and a click ID called ctwa_clid. Meta says the click ID is left out when the message comes from an ad in WhatsApp Status.
You do not need to read any of this to use it. It matters because the ad details exist only on that first message. A tool that ignores the referral object throws them away, and your team sees a plain "Hi" with no clue where it came from.
#What does Chirpoo save on the contact?
Chirpoo keeps the latest ad's headline, link, click ID and the time of the click on the contact. Open the chat and you can see which ad the person came from before you type a reply. If the same person taps a second ad later, the saved details update to the newer one, and Chirpoo keeps a record of each ad that touched the contact.
This helps three people:
- Your team answers in context: "You asked about the Diwali gift box, here are the options."
- You can tell which headline pulls real enquiries, not just clicks.
- Your flows can react. A no-code flow can start on an ad click, greet the person with something specific to that ad, and then continue.
If you delete a contact's data, the saved ad details are erased with it. Chirpoo does not keep ad details after a contact is redacted.
#Why tag contacts by campaign?
So you can find and message them again. Build one flow that starts on an ad click and adds a tag. Name the tag after the campaign, for example ad-diwali-giftbox. Everyone who arrives from that ad carries the tag from the first minute.
Tags give you two things. You can search the inbox by campaign, and you can send a later broadcast only to people from one ad. The tags and segments post shows how a broadcast picks contacts by tag. A tag also costs nothing to add, so tag generously and prune later.
If you run several ads, give them a naming rule: ad- plus the month and the offer. Meta's ad name is not always the name you use in conversation, so write your own label rather than copying the headline.
#How do you see which orders followed an ad?
For a Shopify store, Chirpoo matches each order to the last thing that touched the same contact in the 7 days before the order. The touch can be a click-to-WhatsApp ad, a broadcast that was delivered or a message from a flow. An order that recovers a cart Chirpoo reminded is always credited to the cart reminder. Chirpoo records one row per order, so you see how many orders and how much revenue came after an ad, a broadcast or a flow.
Treat this as "what came before the order", not proof of cause. A customer who clicked an ad on Monday and bought on Friday after a broadcast is credited to the broadcast, because it came last. That rule is simple and consistent, and it is clear to explain to a partner or a client.
This is a guide to what to run again, not a bank statement. Use it to compare two ads against each other, since both are measured the same way.
#What does an ad click cost in messages?
Meta has a free window for ad chats. Per Meta's pricing page (checked 26 Oct 2026), when you answer a message that came from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, that reply opens a free entry point window that "may remain open for up to 7 days", during which Meta does not charge for marketing, utility, authentication or service messages. The reply has to go out inside the 24-hour customer service window.
So the speed of your first reply matters twice: the customer is warmer, and the next week of messages is free. Chirpoo shows the 24-hour window on every chat, supports shared logins and quick replies, and sends push alerts when installed on a phone. The 24-hour window post explains the clock.
Chirpoo adds nothing per message. You pay ₹999 a month, excluding 18% GST, for one number and five logins. For the ad-to-chat setup, read the click-to-WhatsApp ads guide.
Send your next ad to a Chirpoo number and watch the headline appear on the contact: Start free. The trial lasts 14 days, includes every feature and needs no card. If you are deciding between tools, read Chirpoo vs WATI.
Frequently asked questions about Chirpoo and this topic
Does Chirpoo show which ad a contact came from?
Yes. When the first message arrives from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, Chirpoo saves the ad's headline and link, the click ID and the time on the contact, so your team sees the source before replying. A later ad click updates the saved details.
Can I tag everyone who comes from one ad?
Yes. Make a flow that starts on an ad click and adds a tag named after the campaign. Every new chat from that ad gets the tag, and you can later broadcast to that tag or search the inbox by it.
How does Chirpoo link a Shopify order to an ad?
Chirpoo credits each order to the latest touch on the same contact in the 7 days before the order: an ad click, a delivered broadcast or a flow message. It records one row per order. It shows what came before the sale, not what caused it.
Are replies to ad chats free?
Often, for a while. Meta says an answer inside the 24-hour window opens a free entry point window that may last up to 7 days, with no charge for marketing, utility, authentication or service messages in it (checked 26 Oct 2026).
