Connect Your WhatsApp Inbox to Claude or ChatGPT

Chirpoo's MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT read and work with your WhatsApp inbox once you sign in and approve it. Paste https://api.chirpoo.com/mcp as a connector, sign in with an email code and tick what the app may do. You can then ask plain questions about your chats and leads.

#What is MCP, in one paragraph?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. Its own documentation describes it this way:

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems.

Source: Model Context Protocol, Introduction

In practice, it is a plug. Your AI app, such as Claude or ChatGPT, does not know your customers. A connector gives it a short list of things it may do in your tools, like "list conversations" or "search contacts". The app asks, Chirpoo checks what you allowed, and the answer comes back. You stay in charge of the permissions, and you can cut the connection at any time.

#How do you connect Chirpoo to Claude.ai or ChatGPT?

You need to be an owner or admin of your Chirpoo workspace. The steps are the same in both apps.

  1. Open the app's settings and add a custom connector.
  2. Paste the address: https://api.chirpoo.com/mcp.
  3. A Chirpoo page opens. Sign in with the code sent to your email and choose your workspace.
  4. Tick the permissions you want to give: read, send, contacts and flows.
  5. Approve. The app is now connected.

Start with read and contacts only. Add send later, when you trust how it behaves. The connected app gets a short-lived access that renews while you use it, and it can reach the MCP address only, not the rest of your account. You will find every connected app under Integrations, then AI tools (MCP), and you can revoke any of them there. If a person loses owner or admin rights, their connection stops on its next call.

#What can you ask it?

Ask in your own words. A few examples for a store or a studio:

  • "Which leads from the Diwali ad have not replied?"
  • "Show me conversations from today that nobody has answered."
  • "Find the contact with the phone number ending 4821 and summarise the chat."
  • "Tag everyone who asked about the 6 a.m. batch as morning-batch."
  • "Start the trial-booking flow for this contact."
  • "Which templates do I have, and are any still pending?"
  • "How is yesterday's broadcast doing?"

Behind these are ten tools: list conversations, get a conversation, send a message, search contacts, get a contact, tag a contact, list flows, trigger a flow, list templates and get broadcast status. The app also reads a workspace summary. With only read ticked, it sees just the tools that read.

The app reads the real chat before it replies, and it is told not to invent order details. Treat what it drafts as a draft. You can ask it to write the reply and then send that reply yourself.

#How do Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code connect?

These tools connect with an API key instead of the sign-in screen. In Chirpoo, create an API key and pick its scopes. Then add the server address with the key as a bearer token in the Authorization header. For Claude Code, the command is:

claude mcp add --transport http chirpoo https://app.chirpoo.com/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer ck_live_YOUR_KEY"

Cursor and VS Code take the same address and header in their MCP settings. Claude Desktop can use the mcp-remote bridge. Keep the key private and give it only the scopes you need. The MCP calls count against the API's limit of 600 requests a minute per key. For developer depth on the gateway that Chirpoo runs on, see WhaBuzz.

#Why are some actions left out?

The same rules apply to an AI app as to your staff. Chirpoo enforces them, and a refused action comes back with the reason.

  • Free text outside the 24-hour window. After 24 hours from the customer's last message, only an approved template can go out. See the 24-hour window explained.
  • Marketing to opted-out contacts. If someone sent STOP, the send is blocked. Chirpoo also blocks sends with no consent.
  • Anything outside the permissions you ticked. No send permission means no messages go out.

These limits are the point. An assistant that can work around WhatsApp's rules would put your number's quality rating at risk. For how to set rules for the in-inbox agent, read AI agent rules for WhatsApp and the AI agent guide. If you need contacts sorted first, see tags and segments.

The MCP server is included in the ₹999 plan, excluding 18% GST, and the API and webhooks use the same plan. The Chirpoo code is based on the open-source WhaLeads project, which has an Apache-2.0 licence.

Frequently asked questions about Chirpoo and this topic

Do I need to be a developer to connect Claude or ChatGPT?

No. Claude.ai and ChatGPT connect by pasting one address and signing in with an email code. You then tick permissions on a screen. Developers who use Cursor, VS Code or Claude Code use an API key instead.

Which permissions should I give the AI app?

Start with read and contacts so it can look but not send. Add send only when you are happy with its answers, and add flows if you want it to start automations. You can revoke the connection at any time from Integrations.

Can the AI app message customers on its own?

Only if you ticked the send permission, and only within WhatsApp's rules. It cannot send free text after 24 hours from the customer's last message, and it cannot send marketing to people who opted out. Chirpoo refuses those sends.

Does it work with other AI tools?

Any app that supports MCP over HTTP can use the address. Claude.ai, ChatGPT and Claude Desktop sign in with a code. Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code use an API key. Check your tool's documentation for where to add a remote server.
